Allowed hostnames

Accept data only from your own domains.

Your tracking script is public. Anyone can copy it to another site, and then that site's visits show in your reports. Allowed hostnames stop this: Dodolytics then counts data only from your own domains.

The setting is off by default. Then Dodolytics counts data from every domain.

Turn it on

  1. Open a website, then open Settings. Find the Hostnames card.
  2. Select Count data only from your domain and the domains below.
  3. If the website also runs on other domains, type them in Other domains of this website, one on each line. You can add 20.
  4. Click Save hostnames.

What counts

  • The domain of the website, and every domain in the list.
  • All subdomains of these domains. If your domain is example.com, then www.example.com, blog.example.com, and shop.eu.example.com count too. You do not have to list them.
  • Upper and lower case are the same.

You can paste a full address, for example https://shop.example.org/cart. Dodolytics keeps only the domain, shop.example.org.

What does not count

  • Every other domain, for example a site that copied your script.
  • localhost and other local test addresses.
  • Preview and staging domains of your host, for example a domain that your website builder gives you for previews. Add them to the list if you want to count them.

Dodolytics ignores data from a domain that is not allowed, and it does not show an error. If your visits stop after you turn this on, check the list first. See No data shows.

The setting changes only new data. Visits that Dodolytics counted before you turned it on stay in your reports.

Track subdomains

To track a subdomain, for example blog.example.com, put the same tracking script on it. Its visits then show in the same reports as example.com. A visitor who moves from the blog to the main site counts as one visitor.

A link from one of your subdomains to another page of your site is an internal link. It counts as Direct, not as a Referral, and it does not show in the Referrers report. This is always so, also when the setting above is off. A link from another domain in your list, or from a parent domain, still counts as a Referral.
