Add an uptime monitor
HTTP, Keyword, Ping, TCP Port, DNS, SSL Certificate, and Domain Expiration monitors.
An uptime monitor checks a website or a server again and again, and tells you when it stops working. You find Uptime Monitoring in the sidebar under Uptime. It is separate from your analytics websites, and it does not need the tracking script.
Add a monitor
- Open Uptime and click Add monitor.
- In What to check, type a Monitor name and choose the Monitor type (see below).
- Type the address to check. The field changes with the type: a URL, a domain, or a hostname or IP address.
- In How to check, set the interval and the other options, or keep the default values.
- Click Add monitor. The first check runs within a few minutes.
Monitor types
| Type | What it checks | It is DOWN when |
|---|---|---|
| HTTP/HTTPS | A web address. It follows redirects. | The final page does not answer with the Expected HTTP status (200 by default), or does not answer in time. |
| Keyword | A word or phrase in the page. Upper and lower case are the same. | With Keyword exists: the text is not on the page. With Keyword does not exist: the text is on the page. |
| Ping | A server, with an ICMP ping. IPv4 only. | The server does not reply. |
| TCP Port | A port on a server, for example 443 or 22. IPv4 only. | The port does not accept a connection. |
| DNS | A DNS record: A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, or NS. | The record does not match the Expected value, with Exact match or Contains. Several values are separated by commas. |
| SSL Certificate | The security certificate on port 443. | The certificate is not valid, or expires within the Warning threshold (30 days by default). |
| Domain Expiration | The registration date of a domain name. | The domain expires within the Warning threshold (30 days by default). |
The options in "How to check"
- Monitoring interval: how often Dodolytics checks, from 1 minute to 60 minutes. The default is 5 minutes.
- Timeout (seconds): how long a check waits for an answer, from 5 to 30 seconds.
- Expected HTTP status: for HTTP/HTTPS monitors only. Change it if the page must answer with a different status, for example
401for a page behind a login. - Failure threshold: how many failed checks in a row are necessary before the monitor goes DOWN. The default is 2, so one short problem does not open an incident.
- Slow-response threshold (ms): optional. A check that takes longer is marked SLOW. A slow check does not make the monitor DOWN.
- Link to tracked website: optional. A label that connects the monitor to one of your analytics websites.
Pause, change, or delete a monitor
- Pause or resume: on the Monitors tab, select one or more monitors with their check boxes, then click Pause or Resume. A paused monitor is not checked, and it shows as PAUSED.
- Change: open the monitor and click Edit monitor.
- Delete: select monitors on the Monitors tab and click Delete, or click Delete this monitor on its edit page. This also deletes its history, and you cannot undo it.
Dodolytics does not send a message when a monitor goes down. Look at the Uptime pages, or use the Telegram Daily Report, which includes a summary of your monitors once a day.
